§Introduction- 1) Born- 1772, Bengal Presidency.

2) Death - 1883, England, Bristol.

3)He is also known as - Father of Indian Renaissance & Father of Modern India.

4)Known for Brahmo -Samaj (India's first socio-religious reform).

5)At the age of 15years, he learnt Bangla, Pharsi, Arabi & Sanskrit.

6)He also campaigned for women's rights including - Remarriage.

7) After the death of his brother, he saw event of Sati , in his sister-in-law, since then (1812), he made efforts to abolish "Sati" .

8) He focused on education, mainly on women education.








§ Thoughts of Raja Rammohan Roy -

1) Monotheism - ∆} The religious ideas of Raja Rammohan Roy were determined by Hindu Scriptures.

∆} He believed in only one God.

∆} He accentuated the - Comparative Study Of Religion.

∆}He against the idol-worship.





2) Religious Tolerance - ∆} He gave equal respect to all religions.

∆} Aim of Brahma -Samaj : establishment of coordination among all.



3) Humanism- ∆} As per him, one who serve mankind, is the serving of God. Thus, he was a true humanist.

∆} He wanted to create a society based on -  Kindness, Sympathy, Love, Tolerance etc.




4) Opposing Idol worship - ∆} As per him, although, devotee don't get any real benifit from it, but only blind faith.
∆} According to him, Atma-Pujan is optimal worshipped.



5) Opposing Caste System - ∆} Aryans divided society into a caste based on karma. 
After sometimes determination of caste with born.It becomes very destructive outcome for society.


6) Supporting the Upliftment of Women - ∆} Great religions believed that, for the development of the country and society should give the respect to women and also should give the equal importance.






§Establishment & Development of Brahmo-Samaj -

∆} An assembly called -"Brahmo Samaj". 
     Aim- To secure the Hindu-religion & worship of Monotheism.

∆} He was the :  Father of Bengali Prose , Journalist, & Social Reformer.

∆} Raja Rammohan Roy played a leading role in the Indian Social Reform Movement.
