§Introduction- 1) Guru Ravidas was an Indian Mystic Poet-Saint of Bhakti-Movement.
2) He was born on Varanasi(Uttar Pradesh) in 1450AD.
3) His birthplace is known as Shree-Guru Ravidas Janam Sthana, right now.
4) He belonged to an untouchable leather-working class and his poems & songs frequently refer to his low social status.
5) However his original occupation was leather-work, but he had no interest in it, because Bhakti Movement had influenced him since he was a child.
6)He was a poet as well as saint of Nirguna-Bhakti Tradition.
7) Adi-Grinth, incorporated 41-verses which was said by Ravidas.
8) He is also known as Raidas.
§Philosophy of Saint Ravidas-
1) Guru Ravidas during a time when shudras were oppressed from both as their political teachers and members of higher-castes as well as by Brahmins.
2)His Bhakti was a Non-violent struggle for emancipation & empowerment.
3) He propagated the idea that a person should be remembered for his great deeds rather than caste or religion.
4) He brought purity & respect to Kirat which was also mentioned in the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.
§Teachings & works of Guru Ravidas -
1) Guru Ravidas publicly condemned the inhuman system of - Social Exclusion, Untouchability & Brahmin-dominance in Indian society.
2)He was opposed to all religious rituals and secterian formalities.
3) He re-interpreted Bhakti as a form of social protest against centuries-old entrenched structure of Brahmnical-dominance.
4)Even today, India's constitutional values of social justice, liberty, equality & fraternity are consistent with Guru Ravidas' life philosophy.
